FIJI Media Association president Rosi Doviverata has pleaded with the media fraternity to promise that fear would never silent the industry that speaks for Fiji.

Speaking at the Fiji Achievement in Media Excellence Awards (FAME Awards) held at the Novotel in Lami on Saturday night, Mrs Doviverata thanked everyone for standing for the truth, despite many hurdles and challenges they faced in the 16 years under the Bainimarama led government.

“So to newsrooms represented here tonight, to every editor, photographer, designer, producer, thank you for keeping the story of Fiji alive,” she said.

“Thank you for the early mornings, the late nights, the deadlines, the storms you covered, the political fire that you absorbed, the heartbreaks that you wrote about, and the victories that you shared.

“As we celebrate, let us make one promise, never again will we let fear silence the industry that speaks for Fiji. Thank you for standing for truth, even when it wasn’t easy, especially when it wasn’t easy.”

Mrs Doviverata reminded journalists to strive for excellence in every facet of their work.

“Let’s go beyond the basic ‘he said’, ‘she said’ of news reporting. Excellence has been silent and yet through all those years Fiji’s media never went quiet.

“We kept telling stories, we kept showing up, we kept serving our people and look at us now, back here finally breathing, finally celebrating excellence again.

“This is not just a return of an awards night, it is a return of confidence, a return of pride, a return to excellence. When I look at our industry from 2007 to 2025, one thing stands out, we did not break, we got better.”

Every media house in Fiji, she said has something tall to stand on.
