Expect a reduction in the price of flour, biscuits, and bread by the end of this month.
In a statement released yesterday, the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) said the United Nations Food Price Index for last month showed food prices were dropping because of the measures taken by other nations and market forces adjusting.
“We have started seeing reductions now with milk powder and a third-quarter analysis shows that with current trends holding, a reduction in the price for flour, biscuits and bread will be reflected by the end of September 2022, to be made effective in October 2022,” the FCCC statement said.
The FCCC stated Fiji survived the rising global inflation because of “prudent and well-thought-out policies by the Government” such as the removal of value-added tax (VAT) off essential items and the recent $180 inflation mitigation assistance provided to Fijians who may be at a financial disadvantage.
