Father-in-law and 14-year-old boy amongst those charged with rape in July

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has released its latest report on formal indictments filed in the High Courts of Fiji, revealing six disturbing cases of rape and sexual violence involving close family members and intimate partners in the month of July.

According to the ODPP, all six incidents involved victims who were related or in a domestic relationship with the accused.

The cases highlight a troubling pattern of sexual violence occurring within homes and among trusted relationships, including among minors.

One case involved a 54-year-old man was charged with the rape of his 21-year-old daughter-in-law.

In another case, a 14-year-old boy was charged with two counts of rape involving his 11-year-old cousin brother.

A 23-year-old man was charged with the rape of his 31-year-old cousin sister.

In a separate incident, a 37-year-old man was also charged with the rape of his 37-year-old cousin sister.

A 35-year-old man faces charges for the rape and assault causing actual bodily harm of his 26-year-old de facto partner.

The ODPP reported another 35-year-old man was charged with the rape of his 32-year-old de facto partner.
