The Police Force has made a fresh appeal to road users to drive within the speed limit.
It follows the deaths of 77- year-old Rup Chand and his son Rakesh Chand, 52, in a car accident in Lovu, Lautoka, on Wednesday last week.
Father and son were in the vehicle with three other passengers who suffered injuries and admitted to the Lautoka Aspen Hospital. They are reportedly in a stable condition.
“Drivers are again urged to practise safe driving habits at all times as one wrong decision could prove fatal,” police said in a statement.
Speaking to this newspaper, Rakesh Chand’s son Ravitesh said the pair left home in Vitogo around 7.30am to visit his mother Sangeeta Devi who’s admitted at the Lautoka Aspen Hospital.
“My dad was taking my grandfather to the hospital for a clinic and to visit my mother who was admitted,” said the 26-year-old.
“I was supposed to go with them, but they told me to take the lead because I was going to work.
“I did not expect that would be the last time I would be seeing them alive.”
Ravitesh said the funeral for both men would be held following the postmortem examination today.
The national road death toll stands at 35, three more than the corresponding figure this time last year.
