THE continuous rain over the past week because of the low pressure system has caused a lot of damage to the farm produce of many farmers in the country.
Continental Merchant Group managing director Sarabjeet Singh who had grown okra, long beans and cowpea on his four acres of farm in Qeleloa, Nadi says most of his produce were damaged because of the flooding over the weekend.
“A lot of damage has taken place and I am worried because I have invested a lot in this,” he said.
Mr Singh, an Indian national said he brought in new farming machinery from India and it was sad to see them not being fully utilised.
“We would be grateful if we receive any form of support from the Ministry of Agriculture.
“I have around four labourers working at the farm and it becomes difficult to increase the farm revenue during this kind of weather.”
Meanwhile, the Fiji Meteorological Service (FMS) said Tropical Disturbance TD12F lies to the west of Vanuatu, the associated trough of low pressure extended towards the Northwest of Fiji and was anticipated to drift south and affect the group from later today until Sunday.
