Raised by a single parent, Aisake Tarogi hopes to give his three children a better life.

The farmer is among a handful of people who sell their produce at the Sawani border in Naitasiri.

“My mother, Laisa Taga, a former journalist, was a strong woman and she did everything she could to give me a better life,” he said. “But not having both parents in my life really affected me.”

He said his late mother taught him that to survive in life one needed to work hard.

He said after his mother’s passing he had to adapt to living on his own.

He then left his job at Paradise Beverages Ltd in Walu Bay, Suva to toil the land in Naitasiri.

“This is my second year farming as I started to learn the basics of the trade.

“I plant dalo, cassava, vudi, banana and vegetables.”

He said before the lockdown he was selling eggs at the Suva market.
