IT’S finally here, the Samsung Galaxy Note8.

The premium product is the latest edition of the Samsung Galaxy in the Fijian market and is available in most major retail shops as of yesterday.

Telecommunication giant Vodafone Fiji took a creative twist by launching the product in partnership with Samsung at Suva’s Grand Pacific Hotel poolside.

But you may wonder, why own a Samsung Galaxy Note8?

The answer is simple; this piece of innovation brings in a whole new world of possibilities with its latest in mobile technology features. Its features also bring in a new level of multitasking by using a phone. But like most devices, the Samsung Galaxy Note8 is sleek and shiny at first glance, and can be love at first sight for those tech crazy people.

The Samsung Galaxy Note8 has a 6.3-inch screen (2960 x 1440) and infinity display It’s infinity display a near bezel-less, full-frontal glass, edge-to-edge screen.

This lets you see more and scroll less. A defining feature of the Galaxy Note8 is the S Pen has been one of the Note’s defining features.

The S Pen gives the user more ways to write, draw, and interact with the Galaxy Note8, such as live message, screen off memo, smart select, screen write, translate and even magnifies.

Its improved pressure sensitivity further enables users to glance and scroll through the phone in a seamless way. Another feature, a rather rare one for most phone flagships, is the Galaxy Note8 has three cameras, I repeat three.

While two cameras might not have been enough, the robust product has an 8MP (mega pixels) front camera and a dual-LED (dual tone) flash, perfect for taking a selfie or shall I say “selfies”.

The rear side of the phone has two cameras; one is a telephoto camera and a wide-angle camera to capture those special moments more clearly.

This also perfects video recording with its high LED flash, VDIS (Video Digital Image Stabilization) feature and can be optically zoomed at two times and digitally zoomed up to 10 times.

Galaxy Note8 has a 6GB RAM capacity while others are 64/128/256GB which may differ by country and carrier.

However, the user memory is less than the total memory because of the storage of the operating system (Android 7.1.1) and software used to operate the device features.

The Galaxy Note8 offers biometric authentication options including iris and fingerprint scanning. It also features an accelerometer which measures the tilting motion and orientation of the smart phone, including proximity, compass, barometer and your heart rate. The Note8 weighs 195 grams, slightly lighter than the much talked about iPhone 8 Plus.

Both Galaxy Note8 and S Pen are rated IP68, meaning they are both protected against dust ingress and are water resistant.

Water resistance rating however is based on test conditions of submersion in up to 1.5 metres of fresh water for up to 30 minutes, perfect for capturing images underwater.

Its battery capacity is 3300mAh with a talk time of up to 22 hours, but may also vary depending on usage and environmental factors.

The Galaxy Note8 comes in the following colours; midnight black, deep sea blue, orchid gray and maple gold.

And yes it is expensive but can be a worthwhile investment if you’re looking for flexibility to integrate businesses and tasks into designed solutions with the tap of your fingers.

The high-end phone costs $2299 if bought at Vodafone but other dealers have put in introductory offers around the same margin.

Like the tagline for the NOTE8 says “Do Bigger Things”, you can do much more with it compared with what most traditional smartphones can do.
