Ba Football Club’s 90th anniversary celebrations kicked off yesterday with a grand opening in Ba Town, drawing hundreds of fans dressed in black and white.

The festivities began with a float procession from the upper town end, featuring local companies such as Dayals, R.C. Manubhai, Vinod Patel, Coffee Hub, and the Ba senior citizens who paraded proudly through the bustling streets.

Ba FC president Praneel Dayal said the milestone was a proud moment for the district.

“We are all happy and it’s my honour as Ba FC president to celebrate the Ba FC 90th anniversary.

“We are calling on people to come to the carnival and create hype for the week-long celebration,” Dayal said.

Adding to the emotional moment was former Ba midfielder and legend, Meli Vuilabasa, who reminisced about the club’s rich history.

“Being here and looking at all these 90th anniversary celebrations just took us back to those glory days of Ba.

“Now we can’t look back at that winning record of the past, but we use that to help the current team for a positive future for Ba FC.”

The day also saw the Ba Senior Citizens float, a beautifully decorated Sher Ali Khan bus with senior citizens waving and cheering “Go Ba Go,” awarded the best float prize.

The week-long carnival will continue with various programs leading up to the anniversary finale next Saturday.
