A Lautoka family is pleading with the public to help them raise around $27,000 to send their six-month-old child to India for urgent medical treatment.

Rehaan Maan said his son suffered from Hydrocephalus or “water in the brain” — a condition associated with a build-up of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in or around the brain.

The Tomuka resident said they needed to raise $50,000 to send young Reyaan to India for surgery and had so far managed to collect $23,000.

He said Reyaan began developing a growth on his head at two months and local doctors had treated him to some extent.

“This is my humble plea, please help us send our baby across to India for treatment, he has a bright future ahead of him,” Mr Maan said.

He said they were assisted by local non-governmental organisation Being Helping Hand Fiji who had arranged for medical specialists and accommodation in India.

Mr Maan said they were grateful to the many Fijians who contributed financially in the past weeks to help them reach almost half the target amount.
