A family of five lost everything when their home was razed to the ground at Coqeloa, Labasa early Tuesday morning. In a media statement, the National Fire Authority (NFA) said the Labasa Fire Station was alerted on the blaze at 2.22am and a team immediately responded.
“Upon arrival at the scene, the fire team found a four-bedroom corrugated iron and wooden house well engulfed in flames,” the NFA said.
“The team quickly established one delivery of water from the fire truck to extinguish the fire.
“The family was able to evacuate the house during the time of the fire incident.”
According to NFA statistics, from January this year to date – a span of more than nine months and four days – a total of 101 structural fire incidents have been recorded.
Of the 101 fire incidents, 41 occurred in the Central and Eastern divisions, 47 in the Western Division and 13 in the Northern Division.
The NFA has urged all Fijians to be alert with their surroundings and immediately call the toll-free fire emergency number 910 should they witness any suspicious fire-related activity.
