Viema Dinaulu yesterday could not save her family’s belongings when their home was engulfed in a fire at Jittu Estate Settlement in Samabula, Suva.
The 22-year-old said she ran back into the house to get her two children out when the fire broke out about 9am.
“I heard the neighbours calling that there was a fire,” she said.
“So I ran out and saw fire coming out from one corner of the house, I ran back inside to get my children out who were sleeping.
“I put them on the side of the road and tried to go back in the house to get our belongings out but it was too late.

“I even fetched for water and tried to put out the fire.” She said she and her children stood helplessly as the fire engulfed their home.
She said she had rented the house for over two years at $200 a month.
“My husband was at work when the incident happened.”
Meanwhile, National Fire Authority public relations officer Anishma Prasad said they would issue a statement on the matter.
Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro could not be reached for comments when this edition went to press.
