A family in Korotale, Rakiraki, is homeless after losing their house in a fire on Thursday afternoon.
The house was vacant at the time and belonged to Danish Raju.
National Fire Authority CEO Puamau Sowane said the estimated damage was $60,000.
“We have noticed the increasing number of structural fires in the western division particularly for vacant homes,” he said.
“This is a very bad reflection of people not caring adhere to fire safety simple principles.”
“We continue to remind the public to be very careful when leaving their homes. Switch off all electrical appliances and always have a licensed electrician to check your home electrical wiring.”
