Family was the primary motivator for Fiji’s football sensation Roy Krishna when he signed with Bula FC.
Krishna signed with Bula FC for the inaugural season of Oceania’s first ever professional football league.
His successful career has taken him around the world, from New Zealand and Australia to India, where top clubs were willing to stretch their budgets to secure the Labasa-born football legend.
Despite the glamour of his career, Krishna had to sacrifice precious family time in pursuit of his passion.
Therefore, the opportunity to sign with Bula FC was an ideal chance for the 38-year-old to continue his passion at home.
“My motivation was probably coming home; being around my family was the biggest factor,” he said.
“But I also spoke to the coach because I needed to fit into the system. He approached me, everything was easy, and I’m really glad to be home.”
After his first few training sessions with his new team, Krishna said they were working hard during pre-season as the professional league will be a step up from what most of the players are used to.
“It’s very exciting but tough training, and this is what professional football is about. The boys are struggling with the running and conditioning, but it’s going to pay off once the season starts,” he explained.
Bula FC will begin their OFC Pro League campaign against Vanuatu FC on 23 January in the inaugural match of the competition at Eden Park, Auckland.
Bula FC said Roy Krishna will wear the number 21 jersey.
