A waqadra family in Nadi is counting their blessings after narrowly escaping injury when a large mango tree crashed on to their roof during a bout of rough weather yesterday morning.

Homeowner Ravuama Senibuli and his family of six were jolted awake by a loud thud at their residence as the tree succumbed to the gusty winds.

Mr Senibuli said the incident occurred as strong winds began to batter the area.

“It happened early this morning, the force of the wind caused that mango tree to fall on our roof,” he said.

The impact, which occurred at about 7.30am, sent the household into a state of panic before they realised the extent of the damage.

“We got a shock when we heard a loud noise from the back, when we checked, we saw the mango tree had fallen on our roof around 7.30am.”

Despite the significant damage to the structure of the house, no injuries were reported.

The family has since begun the task of clearing the debris.
