Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro says chief operations officer ACP Abdul Khan will visit the house of a complainant who lodged a report allegedly linking Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum to a bombing incident in 1987.

This, after the complainant’s husband reported the discovery of an emergency sea flare near their compound.

Ms Naisoro said the visit was not linked to the alleged bombing incident. She said the complainant had alleged threats had been made by unknown social media users this week.

Ms Naisoro confirmed to this newspaper that police had received a report of the threats and flare discovery and the matter was being investigated by Raiwaqa police.

This newspaper asked if the police would beef up security in light of the concerns raised by the complainant.

Ms Naisoro said: “The chief operations officer, ACP Abdul Khan, will visit the family to discuss the matter further.”

Speaking to this newspaper yesterday, the complainant’s husband said they were worried about the safety of their two sons and close family members who lived with them after the discovery of the flare beside an electricity pole near their compound.

“My wife received two death threats on Facebook on Sunday with one warning her to, ‘Be very careful and prepare for the worst in the coming days’,” he said.

“Internet Protocol tracing on the internet traced the two origins of the emails to Drasa Vitogo, and Auckland, New Zealand.

“The two correspondents have been warned by our relations in both areas not to repeat their actions or they will be reported to the authorities.

“On Saturday we alerted the Fiji Police Force following the discovery of an orange emergency sea flare about 30 metres from our residence.”

The complainant’s husband said they had been informed by security experts that the damaging impact of flames from the emergency sea flare “could be fatal”.

“We stand firm in our search for justice for what happened to our family members and we will let the police carry out their investigations to determine the truth,” he said.

He has pleaded with police to consider the safety of his family members and to increase security.
