Family celebration

THE Vocea family of Caubati, Suva and their relatives tonight will tuck into a small feast in celebration of the return of the first Fijian to play for the Belgium national team, Savenaca Vocea.

He is the son of the late Peceli Vocea —— Fiji’s former representative to the European Union and Belgium, and former national netball captain Vasiti Vocea.

Savenaca returns home two years after he played for Belgium and the death of his father.

He has accomplished his parents’ wish to succeed in education. He returns after he was awarded first class degree with honours in Bachelor of Arts in Business Studies at United Business Institute and the Valedictorian award for the Class of 2016.

“I am happy that he has accomplished what he set out to do,” his mother Vasiti said.

“We will welcome him home with a family feast. Shortly after the death of his father, we sat down and set our plans.

“We agreed for him to stay back to continue his studies and he wants to return home now to work and have his options open to playing here.”

Savenaca represented Belgium in 7s and 15s.

He comes from a sporting family. His dad was a former Suva rugby rep and his mother and her sisters Timaima and Tuipulotu were former Fiji and Suva reps. Vasiti is now Suva Netball president. Other relatives include former national rugby reps Filimoni Seru, Jason McLennan, Tikoibau Matawalu (Nadroga), Akapusi Qera (Flying Fijian), and Ilisoni Taoba.
