The police officer found dead in Lami this morning has been identified on social media as Peni Racagi, with family members, friends and colleagues posting messages of condolence and tribute online.
His body was found floating at sea early this morning.
In an earlier statement, the Fiji Police Force confirmed that an investigation is underway following the discovery of the officer’s body.
Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu said the officer was 24 years old and had been on duty at the Lami Police Station last night.
“The circumstances surrounding the young officer’s death are now being investigated,” Commissioner Tudravu said, adding that police inquiries are focusing on events leading up to the discovery of the body.
He also conveyed the Fiji Police Force’s condolences to the officer’s family, friends and colleagues during what he described as a very difficult time.
