The Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) opened its doors yesterday for six hours, allowing family members to enter correctional facilities and share a special meal with their loved ones currently under FCS care.
FSC said it was a deeply emotional Family Day, marked by tears, laughter and heartfelt reunions, as sons and daughters embraced their parents and families shared food and precious moments together.
The programme was observed across all FCS facilities nationwide and was extended only to inmates who have demonstrated good behaviour and maintained discipline throughout the year.
FCS said family visitations play a vital role in the rehabilitation process, encouraging positive change, promoting emotional healing, and strengthening the bonds needed for successful reintegration into communities upon release.
The Fiji Corrections Service extended its Christmas greetings and best wishes for the festive season and the New Year to all families of those under its care.
