THOUSANDS gathered across churches in the capital on Wednesday night to welcome the new year and swapped party poppers for prayers.
From the city centre to the suburbs, pews were overflowing last night as families, youths, and elders gathered for traditional watchnight services.
The vibrant atmosphere saw generations unite in a “fresh start” defined by spiritual reflection rather than city revelry.
All services included thanksgiving for the past year and hope for the year ahead.
Many described the gathering as a reminder of the importance of community, faith, and gratitude as 2026 gives them a fresh start.
For many in attendance, the strong turnout was a testament to the enduring role of the church as a pillar of the community.
