FOR 17-year-old Faith Agnes Khelan, victory in the J19 500m sprints final was more than just a race win; it was a test of belief, strength, and resilience.
The USP Highlanders Canoe Club paddler had a challenging start in yesterday’s final, but refused to give in, digging deep to power her way to gold at the Wai Tui International 2026 in Wailoaloa, Nadi.
The Year 12 student of Jai Narayan College showed determination and courage against a strong field, overcoming early struggles to surge ahead when it mattered most.
An emotional Khelan said the race pushed her to her limits.
“It was a really good push from the other girls, I really felt it,” she said.
But in her toughest moment, it was her faith that kept her going.
“In my head I said, ‘God, if it’s your will, you will help me push.’ I give all the glory and honour to God and thank Him for the strength.”
Khelan acknowledged the unwavering support behind her journey, crediting her parents and family for standing by her.
“The challenge for me was the start; it was tough,” she added.
