Despite continuing efforts and rising costs, farmers of Valelawa in Dreketi, Vanua Levu, face serious difficulties over the failure of their crops.

Farmer Mala Sinha said they had been planting, watering and applying fertilisers to their crops, but nothing is growing.

“We are wasting a lot of money,” she said.

Ms Sinha said she had used two cans of seeds and applied fertiliser, yet the land remained barren.

“Farming is our only source of income, and without a good harvest, many families like me will struggle to survive.”

She called on the Government to step in and help them.

“I hope that government officials will send experts who can explain why the crops and vegetables are not growing.”

She said farmers now hoped for quick action and support to avoid further losses.
