THE Fiji Amateur Boxing Association is anticipating a huge turnout at its upcoming championship schedule for next year.
According to national head coach Cam Todd, plans are already underway to secure a large venue after the disappointing experience at the FABA golden gloves championships earlier this month.
“We are looking to work with the Fiji Sports Council to secure a bigger venue, I think the Vodafone Arena would be the ideal location,” said Todd.
Todd expects a strong contingent from Australia and New Zealand at the upcoming competition.
“Australia has already confirmed bring 25 to 30 boxers and New Zealand is brining a large team as well, hopefully Samoa will be joining as well. This should be a really good two days tournament,” Todd explained.
2026 promises to be a busy year for FABA with the upcoming Commonwealth Game and the Youth Olympics, the competition will provide great build for our local boxers.
“The purpose of the tournament next year is a mixture, I still need to develop my junior boxers but also our elites for our Commonwealth Games, they need some competition,” Todd said.
“And also, next year we have the youth Olympics and that’s for our boxers age 17 so I want to give them some good competition as well.”
Todd also plans to have some coaching workshops and joined training sessions with other countries on the week of the competition.
The date of the competition will be announced soon.
