Vuna Brothers, a renowned force in local sevens rugby, are now making a powerful statement in the 15-a-side format after an emphatic 34-7 triumph over Draunivau Brothers during the Suva Rugby Union’s Koroturaga competition held at the Buckhurst Ground yesterday.

This commanding victory signals their intent to be serious contenders in the 15s code this season.

Head coach Ilaitia Nasaukibua expressed satisfaction with the win, emphasising that it kept the team firmly on course to achieve their season objectives.

“This is our second year in the competition, last year we finished eighth and missed out on the finals,” he said.

“This year, our aim is to finish among the top teams in the Koroturaga and secure a place in the Escott competition next year.”

Despite their dominance, Nasaukibua was candid about the team’s shortcomings in the second half.

“Our set-piece work needs significant improvement before the next game. Several of our set-piece moves were poorly executed in the second half, and our defence faltered towards the end,” he explained.

“These are areas we must address in our preparation over the coming week.”

Based in the village of Dakuivuna in Wainibuka, Tailevu, the club entered the Koroturaga competition in Suva to provide greater opportunities for their youth and villagers in pursuing their rugby ambitions.

Nasaukibua remains optimistic about the talent within the squad, confident that strong and consistent performances could open doors for some players both locally and internationally.

If Vuna Brothers maintain their focus and continue performing with such dominance, they will undoubtedly be one of the teams to watch in this year’s Koroturaga competition.
