A course on explosives was held last Friday at the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) Engineers Regiment at Nabuni in Suva.

Land force commander Brigadier General (Brig-Gen) Osinivoro Covunisaqa, while officiating at the closing of the Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) course said the training would benefit the RFMF and assist the institution in certain areas.

“The knowledge that the course members have gained from this course will not only enable them to work locally as EOD experts,” Brig-Gen Covunisaqa said.

“The skill may also allow them to work locally in high-risk areas such as airports.”

He also said it would enable them to be deployed in peacekeeping deployment overseas as the need arose for HADR development.

Brig-Gen Covunisaqa reminded the participants to strictly adhere to all they had learned during the course as it could save lives.

“Those of you who are qualified today, never forget the safety rules that you have taught for disregarding these may cost lives not only yours but the lives also, of those near you.”

This EOD course was in partnership with the RFMF and the Golden West Humanitarian Foundation a non-profit organisation based in the United States.
