Experts meet to discuss reproductive health

THE integrity of the family is vital.

President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau made this comment while officiating at the opening of the 8th Biennial Meeting of the Pacific Society for Reproductive Health (PSRH) conference at the University of the South Pacific’s Japan-Pacific ICT Centre in Suva yesterday.

He told members and delegates of the PSRH that life in the Pacific was changing and lifestyle behaviours were threatening the lives of our people.

“Non-communicable diseases continue to grow and are challenging our health system, cervical cancer is killing the women of the Pacific, many pregnancies remain unplanned, teen mothers remain a cause for concern and sexually transmitted infections are prevalent,” Ratu Epeli said.

Meanwhile, United Nations Population Fund Pacific Reproductive Health Advisor Dr Pulane Tiebere said the conference would discuss current issues and evidence-based practices essential for the improvement of maternal, neo-natal, adolescent and child health outcomes, as well as promotion of child survival.
