A heavy rain alert remains in force for the entire Fiji Group as a slow-moving trough of low pressure continues to affect the region.

According to the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi, associated cloud and rain are expected to intensify from later today through to Thursday, bringing the threat of thunderstorms and localised heavy downpours.

“Occasional rain, heavy at times, and a few thunderstorms are expected to develop from the west this afternoon and gradually spread across the country,” the Centre stated in its latest bulletin at 5:30am today.

Forecasters warn that localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas.

The outlook for Thursday is continuing heavy rain and thunderstorms over the Lau and Lomaiviti groups before easing to showers later in the day.
