Expect heavy rain, flashflooding, says forecaster

Update: 3:42PM Tropical Cyclone Ula will not pose an immediate threat to Fiji but the storm will add several inches of rain to the precipitation expected from the second system – Tropical Depression TD07F – which is hovering near Rotuma.

According to the weather office, Tropical Depression TD05F upgraded to a
Category One cyclone at 8pm yesterday.

The cyclone was last located about 510 kilometres east of Apia and moving
south-south west at 17 knots.

TC Ula is expected to remain a category one system over the next 24 to
48 hours and maintain a south-southwest track.

TD07, on the other hand, wiil bring more heavy rain over the next 24 to
48 hours.

Speaking during a media briefing in Nadi, Fiji Meteorological Services
director Ravind Kumar said mariners should take extra precautionary measures as
winds speeds are expected to pick up over the next few days.

“Localised heavy rain may lead to flash flooding,” he said.
