Excitement builds for Swimming Championship

EXCITEMENT is building within Fiji’s swimming community as the country prepares to host the Oceania Swimming Championships from May 8 to 13.

Tournament manager Eugene Panuve expresses confidence in the home team’s chances.

“With a larger national squad expected to compete this year, Fiji is aiming to capitalize on home advantage and deliver an impressive medal performance,” he said.

According to Panuve, the atmosphere among swimmers, coaches, and officials is one of anticipation and optimism.

“Everybody’s looking forward to this,” he said.

Hosting a major regional event provides not only a competitive edge but also an opportunity to showcase Fiji’s growing strength in swimming.

Participating nations are already beginning to arrive, with Tahiti and New Caledonia alreadyin the country.

Their presence signals the start of an intense and competitive week, as some of Oceania’s best swimmers gather to compete.

He shared that communication with coaching staff and team management indicates strong morale within the Fiji team.

The belief is that this year’s Fiji Team has both the depth and talent to challenge for multiple podium finishes.

Performances at this year’s Oceani Swimming Championship could carry additional weight, as results may contribute to qualification pathways overseen by World Aquatics.

Panuve highlighted that the ultimate goal remains success for Team Fiji.

“With home support and a determined team, Fiji is positioning itself as a strong contender.”

For Team Fiji, it’s a blend of rising young talent with senior swimmers that will carry the hopes of the nation into one of the region’s most prestigious aquatic events.

Female Swimmers: Vivita Bai, Grace Khelan, Theola Kwong, Charis Kwong, Salote Leca, Anahira McCutcheon, Marseleima Moss, Kelera Mudunasoko and Jonalese Vatubua.

Male Swimmers: Keenan Kostatino, Thaddeus Kwong, Hansel McCaig, Makalo Philp, Livai Raviko, Jeremiah Rova, Maki’uti Seruvatu, Che Taito, Reuben Taylor, Samuel Yalimaiwai, Tilden Samuelu, David Young, Don Younger and Jamesa Younger.
