AN ongoing shortage of Vodafone eTransport cards is frustrating many Fijians because this system “fail” is disrupting their lives.
Many say they are facing great difficulty travelling while others reported how they were stranded, were forced to borrow or forked out more because they did not have the new cards.
They reported visiting multiple Vodafone outlets in an attempt to upgrade their red bus card, only to be told the cards were out of stock.
School Viber chat groups are also recording students who cannot attend school because of eticketing issues.
“No one seems to know when the new cards will arrive, not even Vodafone staff,” one individual said.
“It’s very irresponsible and poor service from a provider, and this is a company that made close to $500million in revenue last year.”
Commuters called on Government to introduce competition into the bus fare card market.
“The public deserves a choice and a reliable provider.”
Vodafone Fiji has yet to respond to queries on the concerns raised.
Deputy Prime Minister and Communications and Trade Minister Manoa Kamikamica called on the public to report Vodafone to Consumer Council of Fiji.
“My request is, can somebody report Vodafone to the Consumer Council of Fiji because we need specifics.
“But according to Vodafone there’s still enough cards but people need to contact Vodafone or Consumer Council.”
