PARENTS and guardians who have not received the $200 back-to-school assistance are being urged to correct discrepancies in their application forms before funds can be released.
Finance Minister Esrom Immanuel told this newspaper in Nadi yesterday that payments would only be made once correct details were provided and verified.
“There’s a team dedicated at the Ministry of Education at their carpark,” he said.
“The booth has been set up for parents to come and check or enquire about their children’s back-to-school cash assistance.
“They are trying to clarify and clear the issues, but the discrepancies are there.”
Mr Immanuel said once the discrepancies were resolved, the Ministry of Education would forward the verified list to the Ministry of Finance for payment.
“They will send the list to the Ministry of Finance, which will then pay the fund. But the problem goes back to how the forms were filled out at the schools, including changes in telephone numbers.”
He said both parents and teachers shared responsibility for ensuring application details were accurate, noting a two-tier verification system was in place to ensure payments reached the correct recipients.
