Employment opportunities

ONE thing I have noticed here in BC, Canada is that there are a lot of jobs available but not enough people to take up the work.

Anywhere you go you will find the sign “Now hiring” hanging on the gates of businesses that need workers right away.

It is important that those applying for work have an open work permit, as employers here do not want to break the law, but there are some desperate employers who are willing to hire people under the table.

The money here is good, especially when it is nearly doubled when converted into the Fijian dollar.

A Fijian friend sold his house and wanted someone to clean it up to impress the buyer, so a friend and I did our thing.

I love watching the TV series Devious Maids and it certainly helped, because in four hours, the owner was so impressed with our work that he gave us $75 each, which in my mind was nearly $140 Fijian.

No wonder Fijians who come over tend to forget to return home, because the money here is as good as the American dollar.

I am also told by a farmer here that the Canadian Government has allowed Mexicans to be part of their seasonal work program, similar to Fiji’s MOU with New Zealand and Australia.

Is it possible for the Fiji Government to knock on the Canadian door to involve Fijians in their seasonal work program?
