The Minister for Public Works, Meteorological Services and Transport, Ro Filipe Tuisawau, has confirmed that the long-awaited Ellington Wharf in Rakiraki is expected to open on 13th December, or shortly after.
Tuisawau told Parliament that while the original target date was about a week earlier, the slight extension was necessary to ensure the quality and safety of the project.
He said the additional time will allow for proper curing of concrete works, the installation of jetty fenders, and rock armouring to protect the wharf from coastal impact.
The Minister also highlighted that the Fiji Roads Authority has completed major road upgrades from King’s Road to the wharf, with the remaining unsealed stretch to be finalised after the project’s completion.
Ro Tuisawau assured Parliament that once operational, the revamped Ellington Wharf will deliver a safer and more efficient transport hub for seafarers, commuters, and nearby communities in the Western Division — boosting economic activity and strengthening regional connectivity.
