Fiji Fashion Week (FJFW) managing director Ellen Whippy-Knight has handed over the reigns to the FJFW team to continue the show from next year.
She said she had other projects to focus on with her husband.
“I’ve got other projects I want to do and my husband and I own the company but what we’re doing is giving it to the team to run,” Ms Whippy-Knight said.
“I’ll always be overarching looking at what they’re doing but I certainly don’t want to be running around doing whatever we have been for 15 years and you know the young people can do that now.”
She said she would continue to render her support to the development of fashion in Fiji.
“I will be looking out for sponsorships, the networking opportunities, the training and the workshop and finding people to do that but the daily management of the organisation will go to the team.”
Ms Whippy-Knight said they had received support from the Ministry of Trade, Transport and Tourism to get fashion businesses registered so that they were legal and branded.
“What it does is it gives them the opportunity to be able to use that Fiji made brand and they’ve got to have that on the garment so that when they sell internationally, people know where it is because it brings attention to our country.”
