Electricity issues are delaying key medical services at Labasa Hospital as renovations continue at the Children’s Ward.

Labasa Hospital acting medical superintendent Dr Mikaele Mua confirmed that electrical upgrades are one of the main reasons for the delay.

Dr Mua said other services were also being affected, including the hospital’s CT scan unit.

“According to the latest briefing from our office, the delay is mainly due to ongoing renovations, including the electrical upgrades required at the hospital,” he said.

He said the CT scan unit cannot be used yet, as it relies on the completion of the same electrical work.

The hospital is currently waiting for the purchase and installation of a new transformer, which is a key part of the upgrade process.

He said the Public Works Department was handling the technical side of the project, and while there was no confirmed date for completion, progress was being made.

“There’s no fixed timeline at the moment, but things are progressing.”

Patients who need CT scans are currently being referred to other facilities.
