HUNDREDS gathered in the heart of Suva to celebrate Elderly Recreational Day last week.
The event, organised by the Ministry of Women, aimed to remember and reiterate the importance of having elderly people in our lives.
Opening the event, Minister for Women and Children Sashi Kiran said the elders are the foundations of families across the nation.
“Your sacrifices, wisdom and lifelong contributions have shaped the Fiji we live in today,” Ms Kiran said.
“The ministry recognises that ageing should not mean isolation or lack of opportunity.
“Instead, it should be a time for respect, dignity and continued engagement in society.”
In attendance also was Minister for Local Government Maciu Nalumisa and representatives of various organisations, including the Fiji Cancer Society, Japan International Cooperation Agency and the Golden Aged Home.
