Eight records were set in day one of the Triple N Zone athletics competition at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva yesterday.
The records were set in track and field events, with one record being broken after 10 years.
In the senior boys 1500m, Veresa Valemei of Nakasi High School set a record of 4 minutes and 19.97 seconds, breaking the 2021 record of 4 minutes and 36.28 seconds.
In the senior girls 1500m, Akeneta Lutu of Lomaivuna High School set a record of 5 minutes and 25.15 seconds which broke the 2021 record of 5 minutes and 35.8 seconds set by Adi Cakobau School (ACS).
Waisea Turagalailai of Naitasiri Secondary School broke the two-year record with a new time of 4 minutes and 57.12 seconds in the sub junior boys 1500m event, breaking the former record of 5 minutes and 01.97 seconds set by Voniani Veremalua of Wainimala Secondary School.
In field events, Sulia Bulivou of Lomaivuna High set a new distance of 26.34m in the junior girls discus event, breaking the previous record of 23.69m set in 2024 by Ro Miriama Muakalou of ACS.
Barbra Yalimaiwai of Nakasi High School set a new record of 30.45m in the sub junior girls javelin to break the 2021 record of 23.72m.
In the senior girls long jump, Ilisapeci Sagacera of ACS jumped to a record-breaking distance of 5.18m, beating the 2024 record of 4.96m set by Domitila Naita of ACS as well.
A ten year record of 11.73m set by Sila Central High School was broken by Jeremy Verevodi in the junior boys shot put event with a throw of 12.05m.
Fipe Malolo of Naitasiri Secondary School threw to a record of 10.78m in the senior girls shot put event, beating the 2021 record of 10.31m set by ACS.
