Energy Fiji Limited (EFL) has advised customers that a hot-spot fault has been detected at its 132kV Nadarivatu switching station, requiring urgent repair to prevent a potential catastrophic failure that could result in prolonged power disruptions across the Western Division.
In a statement, EFL Chief Executive Officer Fatiaki Gibson said the fault must be addressed at the earliest opportunity.
To allow repair works to proceed safely, EFL technical personnel will switch off the 132kV transmission line between the Nadarivatu switching station and the Vuda Zone Substation.
Repair teams are currently making their way to Nadarivatu, however access has been hampered by flooded roads in parts of the Western and Central Divisions.
Once on site, crews will isolate the 132kV Nadarivatu–Vuda transmission line and commence repairs, which are expected to take approximately five hours.
During the repair period, electricity supply to the Western Division of Viti Levu will be supported by thermal generating power stations in Vuda, Sigatoka, Rakiraki, Rarawai, Pineapple Corner and Naikabula, as well as the renewable power stations at Nabou and Butoni.
EFL said this temporary generation capacity will not be sufficient to meet full electricity demand in the Western Division, and some areas will experience power outages while repair works are carried out.
