Education is needed and is a fundamental tool for empowering women and breaking the cycle of poverty and inequality, says Fiji Teachers Union national president Sashi Mahendra Shandil.

“By investing in education of women and girls, we not only have enrich their lives, but also uplift the entire communities, and the nation,” he highlighted this while addressing the International Women’s Day celebration held at FTU hall in Suva on Wednesday.

“This has been testified by many women teachers in the past, and I believe they will continue to do in the future.

“The impact that they have made and the impact that you, sisters have made to our nation is no secret. And I anticipate that you will continue to shower your blessings upon the young minds of the young teachers that go out through our door steps.”
