Love is supposedly in the air today. Whatever that means for you! Today is when couples around the world raise the profile of Valentine’s Day.

Mother Nature is not going to be bothered by that fact though. However you plan to spend today, and whether you are brimming with emotions, with a touch of love perhaps, today is an opportune time to get our bearings.

Today is when many people are supposed to be inspired by a myriad of emotions, and many will do something extra special for a loved one.

It is difficult to shrug aside the feeling that love overwhelms people and they embrace that very special emotional response.

When you think about it, love is supposed to inspire hope and inch out all the trimmings of joy in a couple, and for many people, nurture a sense of appreciation of one another. Let’s face it, love is something to be celebrated.

Should it really only be restricted to lovers though? Or couples? Let’s consider the notion that love transcends every demarcation line. In our context, let’s consider ourselves fortunate that we live in a multiracial country.

Perhaps we should see Valentine’s Day as a means to nurture an appreciation of others, love being the key word here.

When we cast aside every imaginary demarcation line and embrace that very special word in its entirety, we may get an overwhelming sense of purpose and, hopefully, discover the true value of this special word.

As we go about our day, and in whatever form it should pan out, let’s remind ourselves that there are people among us who may have not experienced love for various reasons.

Let’s spread the word of love, and stretch that experience across to embrace others who need love right now. After all, shouldn’t love be spread?

So in the spirit of Valentine’s Day, let us love one another. Again, lest we forget, we are still in the middle of a global pandemic. We are in a unique position as a nation.

We are COVID-contained. Let’s keep the status quo. Let’s acknowledge all our frontliners, and all those working in our border quarantine facilities. They carry our hopes and aspirations.

So let’s love life, value your loved ones, love your neighbour, embrace joy and happiness as much as possible, and live life to the brim.

When you think about it, love really should be celebrated every day
