Fijians are suffering from the economy being in a sluggish position because the Minister of Finance has absolutely no idea on how to run a modern day economy.
This was a statement by the former general secretary, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, yesterday.
Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said the Coalition Government had not been allowing the economy to function in a smooth manner.
“Prime Minister Rabuka made a statement saying people are concerned about the lack of infrastructure investments, but we used $1b to pay off debts,” he said.
“That’s not true because about $500m of that is for repayments and the other $500m for refinancing. Since when has re-financing become paying off debt.
“So, this narrative out there, only Fijians are suffering in a sluggish position.
“Biman Prasad had an economy that was handed to him on a platter with the fast growing economy, and yet decisions were made contradictory to running an economy in a smooth manner.”
Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said the Government lacked functionality in the implementation of policies.
“You have Lynda Tabuya making announcements, saying we’re going to take away some social welfare benefits. Then two days later says that’s not going to happen without approval.
“The Government is caught in the past, anything they do is blaming FijiFirst.
“Why are people paying school fees when you know they are going through a global inflation, so ease things with people.”
