The ‘More than Just Bread’ HBK Easter Volleyball Championship started at the Vodafone Arena in Suva today after a lapse of four years.
A total of 44 teams are taking part in the men’s and women’s divisions.
Fiji Volleyball Federation president Kemueli Naiqama said the Fiji extended squads for the men’s and women’s teams would be named after the completion of the tournament.
“The extended squad will be tested at a few trials as we begin preparations early for the Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands in November-December. The final squad is expected to be named sometimes in July-August,” Naiqama said.
He added all big teams from the eight associations were taking part.
“We have teams from all eight associations including Northwest (Vatukoula/Tavua/Wainibuka), Lautoka, Nadi, Delainavesi, Kinoya, Suva, Raiwai Eastern and Raiwai Volleyball.”
Raiwai will defend the men’s title while the Water Authority of Fiji will defend the women’s title.
The winners in each category will walk away $1000 richer.
