Trials to select a formidable East bowling team to face their West opponents rolled with full force at the Suva Bowling Club yesterday.
Bowlers took to the lawn as part of preparations for their clash against the West team next weekend in Nadi in what Phillip Lacey, president of the Suva Bowling Club, says will mean a home advantage for their opponents.
“The Western bowlers have home advantage, so they’ll be playing on their own green in the West and Nadi, and that is a fast green,” Lacey acknowledged.
Although he was aware of what their opponents would bring to the bowling lawn, he countered himself and reiterated the pristine conditions of the field as well.
As preparations will unfold throughout the week before they leave for Nadi, Lacey expressed his appreciation for the bowlers who were diligent in attending training despite falling sick.
“It’s good to see a number of bowlers turn up. Even two that were sick came a bit later, they still came even though they were ill, and that’s good and heartwarming for the team,” he said.
With the team being put together, Lacey acknowledged the steadfast support by sponsors Kontiki Finance for continuing to cater to the club’s needs and ensuring they were facilitated with ease of mind for the players.
Meanwhile, the upcoming competition meant an end to all bowling activities for the year as well.
