EIGHTY per cent of movie transactions made at Damodar Cinema outlets across Fiji are paid for through Vodafone’s M-PAiSA digital wallet.

This was revealed by Damodar Group chief executive officer Div Damodar at the renewal of its M-PAiSA Blockbuster Wednesday partnership with Vodafone Fiji.

“We started this initiative with Vodafone a couple of years ago and it has been successful ever since,” Mr Damodar said.

The two companies signed a new partnership contract on Wednesday following the expiry of their previous contract in November last year.

“We are also looking very strongly into going into other forms of payment platforms,” Mr Damodar added.

“We all have to get digitised, and we are grateful to Vodafone and their leadership that’s taking Fiji further into that.”

Vodafone Fiji’s head of e-commerce Shailendra Prasad said they were “dreaming of the day where Fiji will have a cashless economy”.

“Since the promotion ended last year, we have been getting calls every day from our call centres on when the Wednesday blockbuster movie deal is coming back,” Mr Prasad said.

“Of course, there are many other platforms through which people watch movies, but nothing takes away the experience when you actually come to a movie theatre.

“Let’s say you have a family of six people, you pay for three tickets, and you get three tickets for free, that’s a 50 per cent discount on movies in our premier cinemas.”

The promotion will provide customers with prizes as well and more social media interaction.

“These are initiatives that are helping people, motivating people to transition into digital payment, so that’s the major objective,” Mr Prasad said.

“Our long-term agenda is making sure we continue to drive people towards digital payment.”
