Adventure enthusiasts can expect something different as iBike Fiji will be introducing the first electric bicycle fleet in Fiji with its opening in Nadi in June.
iBike will offer guided electric bicycle off-road trips for guests.
The business was founded by Brad Campbell with the intention of giving guests an intimate, unplanned and spontaneous adventure and to get a unique perspective of Fiji.
Mr Campbell’s journey to establishing iBike Fiji was fuelled by his love for the great outdoors and a deep-seated passion for adventure.
Having traversed Fiji’s terrain on countless expeditions, Mr Campbell recognised the untapped potential for adventure on two wheels.
“I’ve always been captivated by Fiji’s natural beauty, and I wanted to share that with others,” he said.
“Electric bicycles provide the perfect blend of excitement and accessibility, allowing us to explore Fiji’s hidden gems while also minimising our ecological impact.”
Joining Mr Campbell on this endeavour is his daughter and Fijian environmentalist Ren Slatter, who shares her father’s passion for adventure, nature and entrepreneurship.
Together, they have embarked on a mission to make iBike Fiji a reality, determined to create unforgettable experiences for adventurers of all ages and abilities.
“Through our guided electric bicycle tours, we hope to foster a deeper appreciation for the diversity of Fiji and promote responsible adventure tourism,” Ms Slatter said.
Electric bicycles
With a brand-new fleet, iBike Fiji is the first business to introduce electric bicycles in Fiji. These e-bikes are battery-powered and assist with pedaling through the motion of pedaling as well as with a throttle. When pushing the pedals, a small motor engages and gives a boost, making it easy to climb hills and cruise over rough terrain without draining your own energy. Due to the limited motor (300 watts), these e-bikes are still considered bicycles and do not require a licence to operate.
Adventure tourism
The adventure tourism market has experienced exponential growth in recent years, propelled by an increasing demand for unique, experiential travel. With travellers seeking more immersive and adrenaline-pumping experiences, it is a great opportunity for Fiji to further capitalise on its natural attractions.
“Fiji boasts an amazing variety of water activity operators and touring companies to show tourists its natural wonders,” Ms Slatter said.
“With iBike Fiji, we diversify the offer by providing an experience on two wheels to explore the rural countryside.”
Fiji’s bicycle community
In addition to catering to tourists, iBike Fiji is committed to fostering the growth of the bicycle community within Fiji.
Ms Slatter expressed enthusiasm about the overwhelming response to their tour guide job listing, noting the passion for cycling amongst young locals.
She also emphasised the vast potential for establishing a thriving bike culture in Fiji and being eager to grow bicycle riding for both pleasure as well as a sustainable, reliable form of transport.
