Dyer plans to hang soccer boots

MIDFIELDER Henry Dyer is planning to hang his boots soon and retire from football.

He has been involved in the sport for more than 20 years.

Dyer is the oldest player in the 2016 Inkk Mobile Battle of the Giants tournament at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori this weekend.

The 44-year-old had played for Labasa, Navua, Rewa and Suva in the past.

He said football kept him fit.

“My football journey had been very good though at times I took a break from football and then came back,” he said.

“I am going strong despite at the age of 44 as I still do my off field training and devote more time towards it. Looking at my age, the time is gone for soccer, but I am still playing and I am here today.”

Dyer, who started his football career with Seaqaqa, said playing with the young footballers had been exciting.

“At the moment I do not have any plans to quit football, but maybe next year I would stop playing,” he said.

His team has two points from two draws and play hosts Rewa today.
