A 28-year-old man accused of stealing more than $7,000 from an 80-year-old woman has been charged by Police.
The man is facing 11 counts of theft after he withdrew $7000 from the victim’s bank account.
Police say the victim had initially asked the accused for assistance in withdrawing money from an ATM in Labasa Town, and had given him her PIN number to help complete the transaction.
After handing over the requested amount, the accused is alleged to have swapped his own ATM card with the victim’s without her knowledge.
Over the following days, he is accused of using the victim’s card to withdraw more than $7,000 from her account.
The matter was later reported to Labasa Police, resulting in the man’s arrest and subsequent charge.
He appeared in custody on Monday, 18 August 2025, and has been remanded until 1 September 2025.
