FIJIAN Olympics swimmer Matelita Buadromo and Herbert Rabua will accompany head coach Sharon Smith for a week in May to Gold Coast, Australia, as part of their preparation for the Commonwealth Games next year.
Swimming Fiji president Ben Rova said this was all part of their build-up to not only qualify for the 2019 Pacific Games, but also the 2020 Olympics Games.
“That’s our objective, so we have a four-year plan in place and our aim is to end up in the top three placing for the Pacific Games. This is why we have a very intense program that covers our senior and junior swimmers.
“Buadromo and Rabua are our junior swimmers and this is a great opportunity for them since they are young and plus Buadromo has experienced international competition,” Rova said.
Their second round of grand prix is part of their build-up for some of their elite swimmers.
“For this one, we will be finalising the squad from April 18. We have one more grand prix which is on April 1 for swimmers who are wishing to make it into the team.
“We also have the senior squad who are preparing for the FINA World championships in Budapest from July 14-30 and have the under-18 team development team who are also preparing for the FINA Junior championships that will be held in Missouri, USA
