The Commissioner of Police confirmed that a total of 47 police officers have been charged with various offences linked to illicit drugs from 2020 to date.

Rusiate Tudravu stated this while delivering a presentation yesterday during the 27th Attorney-General’s conference at the Sheraton Fiji Golf Resort and Spa in Nadi.

“From 2020 to 2025, a total of 47 police officers and these include cases of tampering with assets, assault, unlawful possession and unlawful imposition,” he said. “All illicit drug cases are handled by our Criminal Investigation Department while our internal affairs conduct criminal investigations of discipline reaction.”

Mr Tudravu said the force accepted that these allegations eroded the public’s trust in the overall institution.

“This in fact is affecting the police, public relations, impacting community, policy and practice.

“I came in February, my mission and my vision, my intent with the Fiji Police Force and the Fiji police officers is to solidify the organisation we lead and then provide the proof in terms of how we conduct our business.”
