THE McDonald’s Fijian Drua Women are eager to begin their 2026 Super W campaign on a high note when they take on defending champions the NSW Waratahs Women in Sydney this Saturday.
Head coach Mike Legge says the team has focused heavily on discipline and skill execution in the lead-up to their season opener after two valuable pre-season matches against the Waratahs and the Queensland Reds Women.
“Discipline is a big work-on for us from both games, and just our skill execution.
“That’s been a big focus for us this week and last week. If we can implement what we’re doing here at our training base and translate that onto the field on Saturday, it should lead to a good performance,” Legge said.
The Drua head into the clash with confidence after encouraging performances during their trial matches, with Legge pleased by the energy and attitude shown by the squad.
“The spirits are really high. We had a good couple of sessions yesterday and there was a lot of energy in our afternoon session.
“The girls have reacted really well and they’re just ready to play. They’re ready to get stuck in and start the competition on Saturday.”
While the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua men’s side narrowly missed out on the Super Rugby Pacific playoffs, Legge said the women’s squad remains solely focused on its own ambitions.
“Our goal is to win the competition.
“The boys and their results don’t really come into calculations for us. It’s all about what we can achieve.”
