SWIRE SHIPPING Fijian Drua head coach Glen Jackson says attention to detail in key areas will be crucial when they face the Queensland Reds on Saturday at Churchill Park.
Jackson highlighted ball security and breakdown work as major focus areas in their preparation.
He said the Reds would look to slow Drua ball at the breakdown, meaning his players must be accurate with their carries and cleanouts.
“We’ve just got to get our carries and cleans right and then hopefully look after the ball well,” he said.
Discipline has also been a key talking point this week following their last outing.
Jackson admitted improvements were needed, especially around offsides and defensive accuracy.
He said small margins were costing them.
“It’s inches, it really is inches. We had a few offsides that were just a hand in front.”
Despite this, he praised the team’s goal-line defence, especially against driving mauls an area they have worked hard on in recent weeks.
Jackson said teams were now targeting the Drua with forward-based pressure, and his players must be ready.
“It’s important moving forward that we know that’s where teams are going to come at us.”
He added that reducing errors and avoiding yellow cards would be critical to maintaining momentum in the match.
